New Offerings for Groups and Individuals

Leadership support rooted in equity and justice
As we start 2025, I am excited to tell you about recently introduced offerings for individuals and groups interested in equity and belonging. You're probably aware of all of the talk - coupled with either hand-wringing or celebration - about "DEI" being dead. There's a reason I've never identified as "a DEI practitioner." "DEI" has been co-opted and weaponized. Most folks have no idea what "DEI" even means - or have been told it means something wildly different from what those authentically working towards equity, belonging, and liberation mean when they say it.Here are the questions driving my equity and belonging work:
How do we build relationships and systems where everyone can thrive?
If we want every single individual to be able to thrive, how does that impact how we interact with our our friends, family, strangers, colleagues, with those we supervise, with folks our organizations serve?
How does that impact the choices and policies we make and the practices we standardize?
Exploring those answers is
the heart of my work towards equity, justice, and belonging. It's not about excluding anyone from thriving and opportunity. It's about truly including everyone - for the first time.As 2025 begins, I'm committing to checking my assumptions and leaning in to curiosity. How are you going into 2025?
If you want to explore how to move forward in alignment with your values as the second Trump administration begins.
If you have questions about equity and belonging that you aren't sure who to ask.
If you feel alone, wish you knew how to do more, but are afraid that you'll make mistakes...
Maybe it's time to reach out.I've created 1:1 and small group curriculum made up of nine, one-hour sessions. Yes, there are learning modules, AND there's lots of room to meet YOU where YOU are to personalize our sessions.Generally speaking, if you have access to professional development funds through your organization, check out the
.If you'll be paying for yourself, check out the information about the
. This will follow the same, flexible learning modules in groups of no more than six people. We all choose how we show up every day, every minute. Thank you for showing up with me, in this moment. AbbyP.S. The things shared below are an example of the types of things included in the curriculum to prompt thought and conversations.

Comic Josh Johnson stands with a microphone wearing a gray hoodie in front of images of Dolphin's player Tyreek Hill. In one image Hill is on the sidelines, in the other he is being held from behind by a police officer.
Josh Johnson regularly discusses things happening in current culture in ways that are both funny and insightful. While I'm laughing, I also realize that I've been given a new perspective or insight. In this clip Johnson talks about Tyreek Hill's interaction with the police on his way to a game this fall. The story begins at about the 10:53 minute mark of this video.I encourage you to check it out. See if Johnson's observations and assertions give you a new perspective as well.Feel free to email me to discuss!

Sharon Hurley Hall is an author, speaker, workshop leader, etc. She curates the anti-racism newsletter. I subscribe and would encourage you to do the same.Becoming paid subscribers or Patreon supporters of the folks we learn from - when our own finances allow - is an important way to show our appreciation for and the value of the labor they are putting into our education.Recently, Sharon published the essay, "Black People Are Not Looking For A Saviour." (Sharon is based in the UK so uses their spelling). This tends to be a tough thing for a lot of us to hear and absorb. Women are traditionally socialized to be servers and helpers. Some types of Christianity focus heavily on believers going out to "save" others. Combine those two socializing factors and it's easy to understand why so many of us embody this "white savior" mentality. When I enter a space this way, I believe I know best, better than the person directly-impacted, and everything I do, anything I say or suggest should be greeted with praise and deep gratitude.I appreciate Sharon's dissection of and explanation of how this is received by a Black woman like her and how we can do our own work to undo our "saviour" mindsets.Again, see what you think and feel free to reach out and let me know!
